It is with great sadness that the Brewster Fire Department became aware that life member, Allen Michell passed away on February 2,2026. He was born on November11,1931. Allen joined the Brewster Fire Department seventy three years ago. He was born and raised in Brewster. Allen was Captain of the Ambulance for many years and was a dispatcher for ten years. At that period of time, the sheriff would call a special phone from 7 PM until 7 AM that would ring at four locations. One was the Captain's home, another was the Lieutenant's home as well as the two dispatcher's home. The person on the duty crew who was the farthest would be called first and then the rest would be contacted. They would meet at the firehouse and respond to the call. Allen also was involved in many different roles with Brewster little league for fifty years. It was my good fortune to respond with him in the ambulance on my first fatal accident. I was upset but Allen calmed me down with words that lasted me to this day. Allen said that we always do our best but we are not God. I have tried to live my life following his poignant advice. Allen was a true gentleman. He had a sly, dry sense of humor. and a great smile. He will be missed.
