Brewster Firefighters Save Local Man From Near Drowning

A team of Brewster firefighters were able to save a 78-year-old-man after he became unconscious and unresponsive in a backyard pool Monday afternoon, July 15,2024. Captain Kevin Durmer was the first to arrive to find family members holding the man's head above the water. The victim was pulled from the water and Captain Durmer began CPR. He was joined by Captain Dan Rubin, firefighter Keith Rusinko and Morgan Durmer who all assisted with CPR. Following about 5 minutes of CPR, a pulse was gained and while the victim was being carried to the ambulance, he was speaking with EMS members. Brewster firefighters Vinny Augugliaro, Kurt & Ryan VonDietsch, and Andrew Wheelock, also assisted at the scene.
