| Through
the Years |
| Throughout the twentieth century, the
Brewster Volunteer Fire Department has continued to serve the residents of Southeast.
There were many memorable fires, among them the Main Street fire of 1918 and, in 1923, a
fire which destroyed the Brewster School. Over the years, the fireman have had many social
and fund-raising events. Carnivals, preceded by impressive parades, have been held yearly
each summer to the delight of the community. Fun, as well as fire fighting, was part of
the earlier years. Plays were put on in the own Hall and suppers were held, both to raise
money and for sociability. |
